Bobbin lace fashion
In addition to the metre ware, particularly skilled bobbin lace makers produced entire garments from bobbin lace. In the 17th century, the bobbin lace collar experienced a heyday that lasted until the 18th century and became an essential part of courtly fashion. Lace-making was constantly evolving as it was subject to the whims of fashion. Not least because of this, girls were constantly trained in the various bobbin lace schools in order to keep up with the fashion centres of Venice, Milan, Paris, Vienna, Brussels and London.
